FAQs

How did you get started writing?

I've been an avid reader my whole life, always venturing towards fantasy and romance. I graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in Public Relations and worked in the journalism realm for a decade before I became a work-from-home mom, and then eventually started writing. It wasn't a lifelong dream I always knew I wanted, but something I so naturally gravitated towards. It FELT right, right away.

How did you and B. Perkins meet?

B and I met through a Discord server during NANOWRIMO. We were both working on manuscripts (what would eventually become Fates Illuminated, for me) and decided to team up and help each other. We exchanged chapter-by-chapter critiques, and finished our first drafts together on New Years Eve, before jumping directly into our second books as well.

As you can probably guess, our senses of humor match easily, and we kept saying it'd be fun to co-write a rom-com together someday. Smoke Show was born Easter weekend 2022.

What is the co-writing process like?

Semi-organized chaos. B and I do not have designated tasks when writing — we both do all of it. While one of us is writing a scene, the other is usually editing it or flushing it out with more detail, so no scene is just one of us.

Which of your characters is your ideal book boyfriend?

I named my dog Magnus Ryker Vance. That should be everything you need to know.

Favorite book, author or series other than your own?

The Fionavar Tapestry series by Guy Gavriel Kay is the one I've read the most. I have very worn copies I bought in high school. Time travel, romance, Chosen One, Arthurian lore, found family... let's pretend you're all shocked.

Are you represented by an agent or publisher?

As of April 2024, B. Perkins and I are not represented by an agent or publisher. We operate under the publisher name Revel Books, which is owned by us.

Will your books be available in audio?

Someday, hopefully. As a true indie author, cost is always the factor, but we are always looking into options to make this happen.

Can I request your book from the library?

As of April 2024, B. Perkins and I are in a non-compete clause with Kindle Direct Publishing that prohibits our ebooks from being listed in Libby or other lending services outside of Kindle Unlimited. However, you can always request paperbacks be carried by your library. (If you do, send us a pic — we'd love to see it on shelves!)

What is your favorite writing snack and drink?

Peach iced tea, always. Pirates Booty and Nerds Clusters are usually somewhere to be found nearby. Something small I can randomly eat one at a time to keep my butt in a chair for as long as possible.

If the moon was made of cheese, would you eat it?

I'd be tempted, that's for sure. What kind of cheese?

Do you ever travel to book signings?

Sometimes! I'm trying to more! Come see me at Romance Con in Milwaukee September 2024

What is your favorite order at PopNox?

Chicago-style caramel cheddar popcorn. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

If you could live in one of your book series, which would it be?

I would move to Deadlights Cove so fast, you don't understand.

Who was your childhood fictional crush?

Does Casper count? He should. It explains a lot.
